Protocol

As part of our Classical Conversations homeschool community, a Protocol event is where students participate in an etiquette conversation or class of some kind and then parents plan a nice dinner and a cultural event for students to participate in.

I was the planner of Emily's class event and we had a lovely evening together! What a great group of teenagers and their moms! I'm so thankful to be part of this community!

We got Emily's dress from JJ's House online - it was the sample dress so a considerable discount! I did her hair using a You Tube video and my outfit was thrifted!

We enjoyed a lovely dinner followed by the Charleston Symphony Orchestra Holiday Pops concert and then dessert at a charming and cozy little spot. This was a wonderful experience and I'm so thankful that Emily was able to participate! Now Rachel can't wait for her turn as it starts in 9th grade, so next year she is eager to join the fun!

Christmas Day Out

The week before Christmas, we planned a fun day out to ride the Christmas train, visit the fun activities at Outdoor World, visit a charming little bakery, a vintage market where we got macaroons to bring home and ice skating!

Nutcracker

Rachel approached me last June about switching dance studios - she had well-thought out reasons and it has been such a wonderful change for her! Through this process, she also wanted to audition for a part in the local Nutcracker production - I am so proud of her for going for it and getting two parts: soldier and as a part of the Spanish Hot Chocolate dance.

Here are some family photos and also a fun Nutcracker breakfast we had to celebrate opening night - all breakfast items were things I already had on hand:

Christmas Stuff

Some random Christmasy things we have been up to:

Wreath making: a sweet friend gave me a handmade grapevine wreath and I had fun decorating it up with foraged greens and pinecones my girls collected in the neighborhood and some Amazon ribbon! I watched a You Tube video to make the bow!

Kettle corn with chocolate drizzle: we have enjoyed the black and white drizzled kettle corn from Sam's in the past, but this year I decided to try and make it! We used this recipe and it was a great success!

Fudge: Thank you for your recipe suggestions for fudge! They were all essentially the same and we were successful in making fudge for the first time ever!

Handmade Gifting: I wanted to do something for a group of Bible Study ladies and wasn't feeling up to going out to get supplies so I thought about what I had and made sugared pecans and Christmas simmer jars just using things around the house! Holly was cut from our from yard as was the evergreen clippings. Such a satisfying feeling!

We also enjoyed a night at the drive-in movie seeing Polar Express! And watching Hallmark movies at home of course!
