Camping Activity Ideas

I had printed out some fun activities for our camping trip including a scavenger hunt, word search, a cute Bingo game and a couple of mad libs. These were all a hit!

And a cup of tea from a sweet friend - perfect!

Then a trip to the pool even if it was a bit cool for swimming! In addition to swimming, hikes, playing in the creek, nature goodie collecting and boat making - these were a few fun things for our time together!

Last camping photos coming tomorrow!

The Joy of Eating Outdoors

I love eating outside! Food tastes better, the atmosphere is just lovely and peaceful {at least in the places I choose to eat outside!} and it creates a lovely meal and memory.

After all the fresh air and activity there was a lot of: When is dinner? I'm hungry! Can I have a snack?

Planning our camping food has become an important part of our time away, we are big on tradition and meals are one way of carrying that out. I asked my family ahead of time what they wanted while we were camping and a few tried and true things always make the list: pancakes, chili, s'mores!

PS: look who discovered the coziness of the camping chair by the creek! He is so funny!

I love this cozy photo of Samuel when he had just gotten up one morning and wanted to help with breakfast!

Waterfall Hike

Most of the time we are camping, we try not to have too much planned. And most of our little adventures are just a walk from camp. But it is always kind of fun to plan one bigger outing and we planned it right in the middle so we could have slow relaxing days on either side of it!

It was a beautiful day for a hike! We've been here before but it is always a lovely time and the views and waterfalls are worth the time and incline!

I was reminded of my early hiking days in Colorado where we learned to take a step and lock your knee, take a step and lock your knee!

It was fun to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway on the way home and as you can see, the little boys were tuckered out!

For all these pictures, you'd think we were gone for two weeks when we actually only camped four nights! Just lots of beauty squeezed into those days! It is amazing how the days lengthen when there are less distractions: no internet, no phones, less responsibility.

Anyway, I'll finish our camping photos next week!
