Handmade: Beeswax Candles
I recently came across this post about homemade beeswax candles and immediately knew it was something I wanted to try! I love beeswax candles - the all natural everything about them and the gentle honey smell that lingers in the wax. Their color is so lovely and many perfumed candles give me a headache so I try to avoid heavily scented things.
The supplies I used were the ones linked in the post above and I actually found that this beeswax did not have a pleasant honey smell but was very plain and a little different than what I think of when I think of beeswax candles. But the fact that it is 100% pure is sufficient for me.
Two bags of beeswax made 12 little jelly jar candles. These are the wicks I purchased.
I found a little metal pot with a pouring spout at the thrift store to dedicate to candle making as I didn't want to permanently have wax in any of my everyday dishes!
One other little tip: several of mine cooled with one little hole in the top - I just poured a fresh layer of hot wax over that and in all cases, it cooled smooth the second time.
