Getting Away

David's birthday was a couple of weeks ago and I could not think of a tangible gift to give - but felt inspired to plan a night away for just the two of us! We did this one other year for his birthday, but I was pregnant with Samuel at the time if that tells you how long ago that was!

I kept it a surprise until the day before and we only went about 15 minutes from home to a neat B&B downtown. We used to go here for our anniversary dinner each year until they stopped serving dinner, but had never stayed there. It was so nice! And, what a treat to relax, enjoy quiet and just be together.

This was our home for the night - spacious and lovely!

Not our room :) but more of the inside of the inn.

We enjoyed being hand in hand, some good food, a movie from the library and yes - a good magazine for me (book for David)

Hooray for a good sleep, a yummy breakfast fixed for us and a lovely morning breeze! We walked to the waterfront next ...

What a wonderful time! We should NOT wait another five years to plan something like this again!

What a wonderful gift to give your husband.
This is something my husband and I need/want to do more often, too. We recognize the lasting value of time away together. But our predicament is childcare. We don't live near family. The same situation is limiting our date nights. My son is 13 and taller than most sitters we would hire. But we are not comfortable with he and our daughter staying home together in the evening. It is just for a "season", so we have tried to start having date lunches when possible.

That looked wonderful! My hubby and I went away for a night to the mountains for our anniversary a few days ago. It had been over 3 years for us since we had been away together. I came home refreshed and ready to give more of myself to him, our 4 children, and our home.
