I had been tossing around the idea of leaving a couple of cabinets open shelving to open things up even further - but I confess right up front that I could not keep more than one or two cabinets clean all the time!
The cabinet right above the dishwasher seemed a great candidate for being open since it houses our dishes. Plates and bowls stacked is easy to keep looking nice! And, since I can't reach the top shelf without a stool, it was fun to make it pretty and store a bunch of canning jars at the same time:
Everything inside was painted to match the outsides while scrapbook paper provides a pretty backdrop - pieces are simply cut to fit and hot glued in. I bought one roll of new shelf paper for these shelves and found a lovely fabric canvas liner that is just my taste at Wal-Mart. The neat cameo patch on one of the jars was a thrift store find just a day or two after this was all done for only a quarter!
I've struggled to get really good pictures of this area with the glare and all - but you get the idea!
Over the phone, there is one tiny cabinet all by itself and I showed the inside the other day - I should've taken a before picture of the inside of the door because it was full of taped on notes and cards with phone numbers on them, etc... here's how I fixed up this spot:
Again, all painted to match inside - I wanted to dress it up a little more! Scrapbook paper on hand that looked like ticking lines the back of the cabinet and I laminated more paper and made liners out of those! Pom trim is hot glued on to the edges of the shelf and I pared down what was in there adding a jar for pens with a scrap of the ticking paper around the middle. To spruce up the door - I typed out phone numbers we needed to keep and added a few more and laminated all of that on pretty paper and taped that inside the cabinet door.
I love that this re-do did not cost me any additional supplies as I worked at using what was already on hand! The only thing I bought for both of these cabinet makeovers (insides) was just the one roll of shelf liner for the shelves with my dishes!
It just shows that even little changes can add up to a big difference!
