Narrow Way

Matthew 7:13-14, "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."

My very next thought near the end of reading this is this: what I want more than anything is for my children to be on the narrow path. A smaller rather than a larger life makes sense. How I would hate to broaden their horizons so much that the wide and broad way should call to them. How I would hat to not be faithful in the "small" things of domestic life and training that the wide and broad road would seem appealing to them.

The wide way always holds some appeal for us, some perceived ease or pleasure. My job is to make the narrow way laced with joy and happiness plus a desire and heart for truth that the appeal loses its power and its draw.

Matthew 17:20, "...'I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard see, you can say to this mountain, "Move from here to there." and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.'"

Oh, the things in front of me as a mother that seem like mountains, oh how weak my faith is. Mustard seeds are really tiny and that much faith can move mountains - wow!

Ok, great - all this is helpful and convicting and wonderful truth - but now what?

To be continued tomorrow ...

Dear Monica, I've enjoyed reading your Glen Eyrie reflections this week and seeing the wonderful accompanying photos. I'm thankful you had time there and for the ways God spoke (and is speaking) to your heart. Love, Mom

Great post, Monica! I look forward to tomorrow.

I wanted to tell you that the new picture of you is beautiful. It looks like a photo of an author that is on the back of a book. :)

i am enjoying your thoughts lately, they are matching mine as i raise three boys to seek after wives one day that contain these qualites as future mothers. i believe we have too many women of the "world" that trifle with things of no value, and we need more women that place their hearts in the treasures of eternal things.

thanks so much,

I am enjoying hearing your thoughts on this. I feel like I am at a fork in the road and the choice I make will have such a huge impact on life. I am horrid at making decisions because I worry to much about what other people think. Looking forward to seeing your post tomorrow.

Monica thank you for this. My parents raised me and my siblings in a "small" way. We had what we needed but there was no extravagance. I have often marveled at the fact that all 5 of us are serving Jesus. So many christian families do not end up that way. Maybe God used our "small" upbringing to give us the right perspective and to draw us to Himself.

I absolutely love the thought of making the narrow path such a thing of beauty and happiness that it holds my childrens' hearts there. Thank you for sharing that!
