Creatively Simple: Use Pretty Things

My Mom gave me this adorable dish towel for my birthday! I hadn't gotten it out yet because it was so pretty - but really, isn't that why we have pretty things? To enjoy them? May I just encourage you today - get out something that you already have, that you love and enjoy using it and appreciate the beauty it provides to your home and life.

What did you pull out?

People are always surprised that I use pretty things everyday. Why have them if they are going to be only kept in a cupboard or drawer?
I LOVE LOVE LOVE that towel! And it has canning jars! How perfect for you!

I love sunflowers so I have many dish towels with sunflowers on them. I pull them out often.

This is so true! We have some gorgeous green recycled glassware with tiny bubbles and imperfections in the glass. Some members of my family like to use them all the time. I recently said to my daughter, "I don't like to use these glasses for everyday," and then immediately regretted the words (I'd become my mother who never served a meal on the lovely dining room table in my childhood home). I followed them with, "But if I'm not going to enjoy them, why have them?"

I went and got out of my linen closet a vintage pillow case that was my grandmothers. I put a pillow in it and took it outside to our porch swing. It looks beautiful.

That towel is adorable! Of course anything with mason jars makes me smile. :)

I love this thought. I remember seeing my grandmother and mother's china that were *never* used, and their "guest" towels that not even the guests were to use and thinking, "When I grow up, I'm going to let my family use the BEST towels and we will eat on China."

Really, what are we saving them for if not our loved ones? We sure aren't taking them with us after we leave this world!

Strangely, I do have a set of China we don't use. It was given to me by my grandmother-in-law and it belonged to HER mother-in-law (my husband's great grandmother). I always thought they were ugly really, lol. Recently, they've begun growing on me:) Maybe I'll pull those pieces out tonight...for no reason at all:)

OK -- I confess I got out the cute yellow/green/blue knitted dish cloth you made for me -- was it two Christmases ago?? I've enjoyed seeing it each time I open the drawer, but no more saving it -- I'm going to start using it today!
Love you lots and looking forward to seeing you soon, Mom
