Porch Fluffing: Curtains

I've had the supplies to make curtains for our porch for months - but they've been sitting around unfinished.

When we were planning our porch, a friend suggested some kind of canvas curtains for keeping the pollen down, and on rainy days for still being able to use the porch. We also love them for shading the sun when it shines directly in one side of the porch.

So, I began searching for some options and found this great idea for using canvas drop cloths to make curtains. Much cheaper than Pottery Barn and even cheaper than buying the fabric and making the curtains from scratch.

I bought 12' x 15' drop cloths and cut them in half to make two curtains. My Dad helped me hang up the clips and cable. Because these were drop cloths, I only had to sew one seam on each curtain where I had cut the cloths in half.

These have made our porch feel so much more like a living space and homelike. Plus, we love the practicality of using them!

I was thinking "uhmmm, I just recently read something like this."

I found the other blog "Beneath my Heart" and here is her link.

This is a really cool idea.

I've been thinking of doing something like this for our front porch... because we have no shade, and it just gets so hot. But I don't know that it would look right.

Just know. This idea is tucked into my back pocket - for sure. For future.

What a great idea! I've been looking for an idea for my porch for a while - the cost of roll up blinds is a bit prohibitive. This just might work...did you just use regular old drop cloths, like from Home Depot?

great choice with the drop cloths. They look great and they are economical too.
I have heard that the ones from Lowe's are white and I am seriously considering purchasing some of those to do the six windows in our main living area.

This is a great idea. I'd love to have my porch enclosed like that. I also want to thank you for posting the info about the homemade sandwich bags. I've got some scraps I've been wanting to use up, and these are perfect.
Blessings,
Marcia

This is such a great idea! I need some curtains for my sliding door in the kitchen and this is perfect! I have giant canvas coffee bags framed in barn wood on one wall so the canvas would be really cool. Thanks Monica!

Oh, these will hold up so well to the exposure to the elements. Just wondering if they are too big to fit into the washing machine...
I bet you will enjoy moving your school room to the screened porch on cooler fall days.

I like this idea so much...I am trying to decide if it would work for us since our porch isn't enclosed at all. I am intrigued and am going to check it out. Might help us use our porch longer into fall and then I could take them down for winter. Hmmm....thinking...Love yours!!
