Memory Cookbook

A number of years ago, I received this great cookbook ~

It has tab dividers and then allows you to write in your own recipes! I passed it around to family members so I could have the treasure of the recipes written in their own handwriting!

What a great gift idea! Do you have an idea like this that is both useful and meaningful?

My favorite gift to receive was from my future sister-in-law, right before I married her brother: An address book, already filled in with my new families addresses, who was related to who (if the last name didn't give it away), and immediate families birthdays, and anniversaries.
It was so nice to not have to call around, and hunt up the addresses for them, and to know Uncle Jack is V.'s younger brother, not T.'s, etc.

I plan on doing the same for my next brother's fiance whenever that may happen. (Unfortunately, I missed the first 2 brothers with this idea.)

I love handwritten recipes! I received a bag of handwritten and newspaper/magazine recipes that belonged to my Grandmother. So many memories come back when I see her handwritting.

I have a book that has ideas for hospitality, recipes, and family fun, and I've written a few recipes that I use a lot in the inside cover and the first blank page. When those are full, I'll move along to the back cover. When I do this, I see myself giving the book to my daughter when she's older. Now that I'm thinking about it, I should choose another book and do the same for my future daughter-in-law! :)

My brother & sil did cookbooks for everyone at Christmas one year. They collected recipes all year long from family members via email and phone and compiled them into a "FAMILY COOKBOOK"--complete with pictures of some the recipes that they tried throughout the year. They simply had it printed x number of times and sprial bound with a clear plastic cover for protection. It was a wonderful gift to receive and well worth the time and thought it took them.

Hey. I didn't know about this! I'm shocked that you didn't request my recipe for the Caribbean peanut butter shake. Ha!

It is such a unexplainable treasure to rediscover a Grandmother's handwriting and even moreso her recipes!
When my first daughter was very young I was first introduced to Creative Memories and Stampin' Up. I started a 8x10 book of recipes we enjoy, the first was homemade pie crust. Using Stampin' Up recipe card with interchangeable dessert, vegetable and such I created the first page in "scrapbook" form. The sweet picture of her sitting at the table with her little hand reaching out for the floured surface will be the first photo that greets her when she receives this book when she marries some day.
Sometimes traditions have to start with us. :)

I have a book called "Grandma's Story". I gave it to my (late) "Nanny" on Mother's Day when I was about 12 years old. It is a book that she filled out by answering tons of questions about her life. Nanny had BEAUTIFUL penmanship! Once she filled out the book, she gave it back to me as a gift.....I'll be 38 in December, so that 26 year old book is one of my most prized possessions. The information and detail in it is priceless and irreplaceable! I LOVE family history and information!
