Home: Fun!

Ladies, how are we doing? I started yesterday feeling much more relaxed and enjoying my home more because of all the investments I've made in it this week.

We accomplished all of our errands and most of our jobs at home - David also helped me by putting the Christmas boxes in the attic! During Quiet Time - I worked on garlands and watched part of the Christmas Shoes - finished last night! Christmas movies are the best, aren't they?!

I tried Carrie's suggestion of homemade fajita seasoning last night and I think they were the best fajitas I've ever made - I've never been a big fan of the packaged mix, and this was a hit with both David and I!

Now, I know my littles are ready to have some fun! And, we have a fun day planned ~

Quiet Time
Breakfast
Morning Chores
Drive to Kroger (about an hour)
Head across the street to the mall to ride the Christmas train (an annual tradition!)
Eat lunch at the mall (probably Chick-Fil-A)
Drive home and have quiet time
Talk to Carrie; fold clothes that are still in the dryer from yesterday :)
School work will need to be done sometime after QT
Dinner: Gingerbread Pancakes in fun Christmas shapes with whipped cream and sprinkles!
Snuggle up on the couch with my littles and watch a Christmas movie! (Daddy has to work late)

Ahhhh, now doesn't that sound fun?! What are your *fun* plans for today?

That does sound like a fun day!
Yesterday, I baked a batch of cookies, made the menu and grocery list, and spur of the moment did a little Christmas shopping (wooden train set from Target)with my sister, and went grocery shopping, and also did Wal*Mart.
We ended up finishing leftovers for dinner, instead of having soup.
Today- can you guess?- Baking, decorating, hopefully some sewing(Waldorf style dolls), and maybe some cinnamon ornaments with the older kidlets. All those things I consider fun, and when they go to help, so do the children. Dinner will be the French Onion soup we were going to have yesterday. Its cold windy and rainy, and my DH is deer hunting, so that should be just the thing to warm him when he gets home!

Today we are going to make a paper chain to use as a countdown and then make a wreath out of a paper plate and tissue paper. After rest time we will be making cookies. We are taking the cookies over to grandma & grandpa's after dinner.

what is that wonderful looking cookie recipe?!!! Post it please!! :-)
Also... how are you getting your pancakes to be shaped in christmas shapes?? an easy trick??
One more question-a desperate plea for Quiet Time ideas... what do your girls do during QT? My eldest is 3 and is completely abandoning naptime and QT and as you mom's all know, we need QT to maintain santity! What are some tips of the trade?? Also, how long do you have QT for?
Sounds like a fun day!
We're going to put up our Christmas tree today!!

Here is another fajita recipe for you to try......

3 T. lime juice
2 T oil
1 t. minced garlic
1/2 t. cumin
1/2 t. oregano
1/2 t. salt
1/4 t. pepper

You cannot store this one in a jar, but it is EXCELLENT!

Today I have nothing to do after work which is a fun day in and of itself, but I started decorating my mantle for Christmas last night which made me very happy, perhaps I will continue since I will actually be home to do it! ( I have to skip bible study with some loverly ladies tonight to be home but 10 busy days I decided some things are more important that study with ladies, like home with hubby! Thanks for the reminder of how important being home is) I also have no advent calender yet so I have big plans to make one tonight! Any recommendations?

We are decorating our "nice" tree today and making snowflake chenille stem ornaments as well, all while listening to beautiful Christmas music and munching on the molasses cookies my daughters made yesterday. {sigh} I love the holidays!

I love this series you're doing! Very inspiring :)

Today I'm watching a group of men putting up our Christmas lights while drinking coffee with whipped cream and dreaming about Christmas cookies. And, you know, all the other stuff--laundry, lessons, etc. But the coffee with whipped cream is definitely a highlight!

I just recently found your blog and wanted to say how much I have enjoyed it.

Our fun Christmas activity was buying our tree today, which we'll decorate on Sunday afternoon.

Love how this series inspires and motivates us all. I finished my inside decorating this week. I seem to get/make more decorations each year, so it takes a bit longer each year.
The gingerbread pancakes sound fabulous. Do you have a recipe? Tonight I made the normal dessert time a bit more special. Brownies made from a box mix, whipped cream left over from Thanksgiving, garnished with crushed candy cane. While eating them, we put together one of our Christmas puzzles. Dollar Tree has a nice series of 100 piece puzzles.

I may have to have the kids help me tomorrow in order to finish all that I had planned.

For today's theme here is my list:

Quiet Time: Tea Time with God pg 14&15

Breakfast: Chocolate Silk Coffee (Folgers), Oatmeal Banana Cookies, and Peach Yogurt

Read: I started a new book A Carol for Christmas by Robin Lee Hatcher

Laundry: Wash, fold, and put away 1 load of husbands & I laundry (You might have notice I do not do the kids laundry. They do their own when they turn 13 therefore I have no kid laundry to do any more.)

Tidy, tidy, tidy! I walk around my house and put everything away that is out of place each morning and again before bed.

Kitchen: Cleaned out the refrigerator, and then I set up my Noel Tablescape

Computer: read blogs & check email

Lunch: Leftovers

Kitchen: Pick up the kitchen and put things away.
(You may have noticed I have not done any dishes except Monday. That is because it is son #2’s week to do kitchen chores. We rotate chores Kitchen, Laundry, Bathroom, Living Room, and School Room between the kids and I. Whoever is assign to that room for the week does anything and everything needed to be done in that room for the week. We have a detailed list posted on the side of the fridge for each room but mostly they just know what is expected. The detailed cleaning in each room that I am doing this week is a seasonal project I do. I don’t always require them to help but most of the time they do in some way.)

Kitchen: Prep desserts for the Dip/Appetizer Party. Have each of my kids make a dip or appetizer. Print recipes for them.
Dinner: Baked Potatoes Bar

SWAM: Students With A Mission group meeting Dip/Appetizer Party at our house. We give prizes to the teens based on a quality checklist. We gave our cookie plates to the kids as they left along with a token gift.

Computer: blog

Tidy, tidy, tidy! My before bed routine.
