Handcrafted Christmas: Ice Skates!

How about repurposing something you may have sitting around or have found at a thrift shop? I found a pair of ice skates in a local thrift shop and then was given two more pair recently! What fun!

Here's what I did with them ~

For my friend Grace (I'm mailing them today!) ~

For my home ~

This pair is for sale ~$10 (SOLD!), going to the first person who says they are interested. I'll be able to calculate shipping once I have your zip code. You can either comment or send me an e-mail if you are interested.

Cheery red ribbon has replaced the laces, sparkly green snowflakes dangle from each skate and a cute Merry Christmas tag hangs at the top! These would look great hanging on a sled on your porch, added to some fresh greens or leaning near a cozy fireplace!

What is your favorite item to repurpose into a Christmas decoration?

I have hung a pair of child's ice skates from my front door at Christmas time in place of a wreath for years. Speaking of which, it's almost time for me to dig them out.
Yours look so pretty with the red ribbon and the greens tucked in.

I always did the ice skate thing hanging from a runner sled - out on the front porch. They were my Dad's old black ones (oh, how he loved ice skateing. He was the Best!) Kinda special to me - since he has since gone on to be with the Lord, going on 13-14 years now. Then they got moldy in our basement, last year. Really, really bad! So, I had to throw them out.

I was acutally thinking though, I need or want to get my hands on another pair (somewhere) and do it again. Although, it wouldn't be as nostalgic... same idea.

I liked how you decortated these.

Michelle, you continually amaze me with your creativity and thoughtfulness. You are always thinking ahead and I admire you greatly .

We do a sled with ice skates sometimes. Sometimes , somebody needs their ice skates ! LOL My inlaws live on a small lake, so hubby and kids go ice skating if the lake gets frozen enough.

Living in the south-Mississippi-I hardly ever see ice skates but would love to have a pair to decorate. I know that these are sold, but would like a chance to buy some if you ever come across another pair. I have decorated children's rain boots for spring. You are so creative.

They turned out GREAT!! I am so happy as I know you had been working on this Idea. Sorry we didn't fit it in to our visit. Not like we didn't accomplish anything though ;) Love the ribbon as the laces. I can't wait to see them in real life. Luv you much!!

Cute... I'm not nearly creative enough to come up with this sort of stuff. Then again, I don't have much in the way of fun things laying about the house either. LoL

How cute!! The ones for your friend Grace are my favorite! I actually have white ice skates that used to be my mothers - I'm taking my daughter ice-skating at our park soon, then I may decorate with them. What a great idea!! And I LOVE the red ribbon in place of laces :)

Oh, Monica, how simple and beautiful! I will try my hand at this idea, too. For 12 years of my childhood and youth I took skating lessons, and at some point in there my parents bought me a very special, rather costly pair of skates that allowed me to finally do some fancy moves! Unfortunately, for soem reason my feet hit a growth spurt when I turned 21 (!) and the special skates no longer fit...but they can be brought back into my life as Christmas decorations, what a great idea. Oh boy! I'm a big fan of your blog by the way. Sincerely, Heather in PA

What a truly delightful idea! We live in the frozen north (interior of Alaska where we have breaking record lows...)so I may just have to stop off at the thrift store or Play It Again Sports the next time we are in town.

We live in a truly rural location so I must say we rarely decorate out of doors. However the of blue LED lights now grace our upstairs windows where the neighbor across the hill can enjoy them each day! :)

I also wanted to let you know how much of an inspiration your blog has been to me! I was never able to access it before because our dial-up connection was too slow but now that DSL (high speed internet)has to come to our location a whole new world of inspiration has opened up! It is amazing how God has blessed me during these past few months!!

What kind of polish do you use on the white skates? They look new!

Oh my...you are a girl after my own heart!! I have a pair of ice skates from Goodwill that I use every year. And I am in the process of "winterizing" my home right now. You'll have to drop by and check it out when I post.
Love the Merry Christmas tag and I am pretty sure I can make one, but did you purchase it somewhere??
Oh, I read your Thanksgiving post and you have given me some great ideas. Since we are staying home for Christmas I may take your idea of delivering food to the fire station or something. Maybe a Christmas brunch or something. I am getting excited just thinking about it!!

Oh wow ... I was staring at some cute white ice skates at our thrift store forever ... thinking I just couldn't get them as we wouldn't be using them for iceskating. This is wonderful.
