That looks like a lot of fun! That's a wonderful idea, to do a "first day of spring" basket and egg hunt... my husband has been against leaving the eggs/basket out of Easter, so we always do it. Maybe this would be an alternative that he'd be receptive to. :)

The baskets are very cute! What a wonderful celebration of the first day of spring.

Loved seeing these pix. Hope you're feeling better! It's cold and rainy here today--wish you could be here, too. =)

Hi, this is the first time I've commented on your blog. I love it BTW. I just heard about doing this from a friend at church, so we did it too. So much fun and doesn't take away from what Easter weekend is really about. I blogged about it at www.joshandcrystalprice.blogspot.com

Love it! Looks like a fun day!
We always do our eggs/basket stuff on the Saturday prior to Easter, but this idea is great as well!

We had our first "first day of spring party" thanks to you. The kids had a blast. I love that we can do all the extra stuff, but then focus on the wonderful blessing that Easter really is. What a great idea to use a cooling rack for the eggs to dry!

Dear Monica,
Thank you for sharing your beautiful life and the simple goodness you add to everyday life. I am always inspired by your preparing and planning to make such simple beauty happen. Thank you that you always give an inspirational heads up to encourage others. I made the cinnamon biscuit bunnies and we died our boiled eggs for breakfast and read two books about spring. My hubby was off too (for spring break with the kids) and we enjoyed our day together. It was one of my goals as I a new home-school mom to celebrate the seasons change and your inspiration encouraged me to stay on task.
Did the girls get to wear their dresses yet? or are you waiting until Easter Sunday? Can not wait to see pics of them in the sweet dresses you made. Great idea to dry the eggs on the cooling rack. I did mine in an egg carton and we had to turn them to dry completely.
My next goal is to make the dirt cake. I love it with the flowers, too cute.(especially with your lil girl smiling so beautiful holding it up.)

We had a fun 1st day of spring, despite our littlest daughter being a bit under the weather... we made bunny biscuits (thank you for the idea!), made little books about spring, and played with our bunny rabbit. Looks like ya'll had a very special day!

It looks like you all had so much fun! I discussed with my almost-5-year-old whether the "bunny" should come on the 1st Day of Spring or Easter, and he chose Easter. I said okay, but doing it the day before Easter is a good idea, too! Maybe we will have to revisit the discussion. :) Thank you for the great ideas!

I so love your first day of spring celebration! We made daffodils and had a picnic. But the weather got chillly that day so we had to have it inside.

We ended up doing a very similair first day of Spring celebration as yours, although also added in a picnic (brrr!), and trip to the sports store to look at tents and fishing gear. Also we're saving baskets for Easter, mainly because I didn't get them made up in time! We made the bunny biscuits too, btw, and they were a total hit. They will definitly become a permanent addition to our Spring party! Thanks so much for the great ideas and inspiration!

Hi Monica-

I remember your post from last year and loved it so much I knew we had to try it for ourselves this year, we did and we loved it!

Peter Rabbit was visiting our local Barnes and Noble so a visit was an unexpected but fun addition to our celebration.

We had a spring themed dinner with flower shaped hamburgers and butterfly fruit. We had birds nests for dessert (honey, coconut, sunbutter and raisins for eggs).

After dinner we did an egg hunt and played a couple homemade games. One was Springo-like Bingo but with spring themed pictures instead of numbers/letters.

Thanks for the inspiration Monica, we all agreed this will be a yearly event. We also are looking forward to doing Easter a little differently and more meaningful this year.

I had forgotten about the cinnamon biscuit bunnies. They were a hit last year and I plan to make them again soon. Thanks for the reminder!

I love seeing that you did an egg hunt and such as part of your first day of spring celebration. I got that idea for this year, but not until a few days before. We skipped it this year, but next year (my LOs will be 2 and 3 next year) we are planning something similar.
