Names of Jesus Garland Tutorial

When I saw a few round tins at my local thrift store - I never imagined that they would spark an idea that would be so well received!

A special thank you to all of you who ordered garlands from my Rusty Robin sale! All orders are completed and you should have heard from me regarding payment details. I hope you will enjoy using this in your home, not only to look festive, but to remind us of the birth of Jesus for whom we celebrate this season of Christmas!

I will accept future orders for the garlands, but I won't be able to complete anymore before Christmas this year. Details will be posted to The Rusty Robin sometime next year.

However, if you are interested in making your own - here's how!

Type up the following in Word or other word processing program:

Oh, come, let us adore Him!
Wonderful Counselor
Son of the Most High
Mighty God
Jesus
Everlasting Father
Emmanuel
Prince of Peace
Glory to God in the highest...

Print on regular white paper.

Use a drinking glass or canning jar (or whatever is the appropriate size for your text) to trace a circle around the words. Cut out.

Use a larger glass or canning jar lid to trace a circle from patterned scrapbook paper. Cut out.

Glue smaller circle onto larger circle with glue stick or double stick tape.

Punch small hole in the top of each larger circle - centering at the top.

Laminate ~ I had this done at Staples and it was about $2 per garland to have the laminating done.

Cut out again, leaving a small edge around the circle. Punch through the same hole at the top of each circle.

Cut a length of ribbon about 52 inches (or to desired length) and create a loop at each end, securing with knots. Tie each circle on to the garland and hang!

I really liked this idea when I saw it during your sale. My husband liked it, too, when I told him about it. We're always looking for ways to focus on Jesus in our home and this will draw our hearts and minds to Him. I immediately went out to get scrapbook paper and have my garland started already!

I know you said that the garland tins were a thrift store find and therefore you couldn't duplicate that. Would round gift card tins work? I've seen some in various stores and wondered if that would be somehting you'd be interested in. I don't know how costly they'd be. though.

I'm so excited to see these directions! I had decided to make some of these after seeing yours and had started by typing/printing the names in Word. I got that step right! Thanks so much for the rest of the steps. I'm looking forward to making some for friends and myself!

YAY!!!! I'm SO making these this week!

I know we can be creative with this and do our own thing, but I'd love to know what font and size you used on yours; they are so beautiful!

Hi Monica!
I ordered one of these garlands at your Rusty Robin sale and wanted to thank you! I was so excited when it arrived a few days before Thanksgiving and it was one of the first Christmas decorations to go up. It is now hanging on our mantel and we are greatly enjoying it. You did a beautiful job with it. I am looking forward to your next sale! Thank you for sharing how you made them. I might just make them for gifts next year. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

Those are so cute, Monica. May I ask what font that is? I just love it!

I bought one of those circle punch things from the craft store. If you do these often for selling, that would be a GREAT investment. I used my coupon from Michael's. They have a small one and a really big one. I bought the big one and it has helped a lot with my gift tags.

Hope that helps- it is beautiful!

This is such a beautiful idea. I prepared some Advent readings for our fellowship based on the names of Jesus two years ago - I am going to dig out my notes and make a garland using all those names - along with my circle cutter [to save time!]
blessings to you and and your lovely family x

Monica,
Thanks so much for the directions, yours is just beautiful! I think Santa needs to bring you a laminating machine so you will not have to go to Staples to have it done - They are not very costly. I found one a Walmarts for under $20.00. I will be making some too like so many others here. Thaks again.

I used Sandy Text size 40. For the longer items - I used size 36.

Hope that helps!

Visiting from MSM ~ What a great idea! We could easily incorporate this into our Advent celebration using the titles given to Our Lord in the verses for the last eight days of Advent.

Monica,
I loved the idea when I saw it on your sale. I hit the road running to figure out how to do it myself. I made one and it is hanging beautifully from my mantel right now. I have a group from church coming over on Wed. to make a craft and we are making the garland. I used laminating contact paper from Wal-Mart and it worked like a charm. I also put a small berry through the hole where the ribbon is to spice it up a bit. Thanks for all your great ideas and your sweet spirit.

I did this last night with my Music Maker's children's choir at church. We had studied about the Names of Jesus all year, so it worked perfectly and what better way to remember why we are celebrating. Thanks for the great idea!
