Here is the first project in our Handcrafted Christmas series! I first saw the button jewelry idea here. And, kept it bookmarked for a someday project. This is a great tutorial complete with photos.
I did mine just a tad differently. I did start with plastic canvas - but instead of wiring the buttons on, I sewed them on with a needle and thread. I couldn't get the idea out of my head that the wire on the back (the cut ends) would be scratchy or ruin clothes
So, here are the projects I completed:
These two are pins - Christmas gifts! I sewed on the buttons and then took a small piece of lace and gathered it up - I just hot glued it to the back and then glued a pin to the back of that. Super easy.
Next, I made two necklaces - the one all the way at the top of this post and this one:
For these, I sewed the buttons on and then hot glued a small piece of felt to the back. What is the chain for this necklace? A piece of black ribbon (0.44 a roll) and here's a look at the clasp that I found a package of inexpensively at Wal-Mart:
I used a combination of buttons I already had on hand and two small packages of crafting buttons from Michael's.
Have fun crafting!!
