A Little Squirrel

What? She doesn't look like a squirrel to you - read on!

Before we left for our trip, I was looking through the DVD's trying to decide which few I wanted to bring in the car. I really wanted to bring one of the Clifford ones because it has multiple episodes on one disc, but could not fine one. Emily got a five disc set for Christmas last year - so where were all the Clifford movies? We also remembered that we could not find the Toy Story 2 DVD. Hmmmm....

We asked Emily where they were - no real answer. We asked Rachel where they were and she always pointed behind the TV. But, they weren't there. David absolutely scoured the Den and we had looked other places all over the house, but they could not be found. We did find one of the Clifford movies - but where were the other four?

So, I chose other movies and we went on our way. However, they were still missing. Another thing missing, was the Boo Boo Buddy from the freezer - it's amazing how much this little darling can help an owie! :) (Psychological perhaps?)

Several weeks have passed - a month I guess and then one morning when the ladies got up - Emily said, "Rachel put a lot of books in the middle." In the middle of what? She offered to show me.

We headed into their bedroom and Emily pointed behind the headboard of Rachel's bed. Yes, there were quite a few books behind there (a few of these were already on the floor, but you get the idea):
After pulling all of those out - we found:
And:
Mmm hmm - well, now we know who is squirreling treasures away behind her bed. She must just think it is so fun to "deposit" things in this little slot:
We also found a princess cell phone a small pony toy and more books. Mystery solved - Rachel is the secret squirrel.

What a sweet story! One toddler room that I worked in had a basket of brightly covered rubber frogs for counting, sorting, carrying around. We could never figure out where they would disappear to; until we discovered the small opening on the panel under the slide. Later we caught one of the little girls dropping them in one by one!

Around here, I have discovered magnets in the bread machine(stored on their level with such a nice opening!LOL!!!). And lots of things in the trash can.

What a memory!

In my house we call the crack between Andrew's mattress & wall "the slot."

When I would search for missing library books, he would always say he dropped it down "the slot" after reading late in bed.

That's too cute :) It must be a middle child thing because my sister did the exact same stuff! Maybe something about them feeling that nothing is ever just "theirs".

How cute! That will be fun to tell her when she's older. Reminds me of the time we found out our middle daughter was stashing wet pull-ups behind her bed and putting a new one on before we figured it out. EWWW!

That is a darling story!! I love imagining what their little brains must be thinking... So cute how she must find it clever and charming to "deposit" secret things into this little slot, as you said. I love it. :) Happy day you four!

You have to admit, CDs are the perfect things to slide down into that slot. A book's pages or any toy could get stuck mid-way. But a CD? No way!

So funny and what a sweet story.
Reminds me of when I was really little. Don't know if I actually remember this or just remember my parents talking about it.
I had a habit of taking one or two coins off the counter when my father emptied his pockets in the evening. I was squirrling them away under a rug at the end of the hall. The were far enough under the rug that when my mother swept and pulled up the edge she didn't notice. One day they were looking for money to buy Dr. Pepper's and didn't have enough cash. I said
"I have money" and took them to my stash. I love Dr. Pepper. I wonder if this is just a girl thing?

That is such a cute story. My toddlers love to drop things down slots, vents, etc, but they've never established neat little "squirrelin' spots" like that... at least not that I'm aware of... : )

Thanks for sharing such a sweet story with us!
