A Crafty Afternoon

Oh my, it had been over a week since I did anything crafty - and for those of you who know me, that means I was having withdrawals. So, yesterday afternoon, everyone was sleeping and I decided to whip out a couple of projects!

First, I decided to get out this yummy fabric from ReproDepot and make an apron for a swap I recently signed up for. You can find two great apron tutorials here and here (note: I am not endorsing everything on her site, but these are great patterns and I thought some of you might enjoy the tutorials.)

Next, I wanted to make some more hair bows for my little ladies. Target has some great ribbon in their Dollar Spot section right now - all these bows cost $2 for ribbon and I still have some leftover! I made nine bows all together from the ribbon. You can only get two loops on each side with the 18 inch pieces, but I was still pleased at how they turned out. Also, I wanted to let you know that these can be safely put through the washer and dryer. Several of ours have made their way into the laundry without my knowing and came out just fine!

I also started on the next Proverbs 31 project! Any of you up to anything crafty? I'd love to hear your project ideas!

What a cute apron! I love retro fabrics so I bookmarked that fabric site. My next project is going to be sewing cloth napkins. Not a fancy project but it has been years since I have sewn so it will be a good start for me.

The bows and apron all turned out very cute! Quite a result from an afternoon of crafting. :) Love you, Mom

The apron is so cute! I've made some tote bags lately, also a blouse and some aprons for myself. I spray painted a few pieces for my living room last week. So I guess you would say I've been a little crafty!

I can't believe how much you get done in one afternoon, though! Wow! I'm not quite so fast!:-)

I will have to direct Miss Bonnie to the apron tutorial because she has been wanting to make one. I love the material you used for the one you made, and thanks for the heads up on the ribbon at Target. I had to laugh at your crafting withdrawals comment because it reminded me of yesterday when Miss Bonnie and I had just finished up a very, very busy day. We happened to drive by Michaels on our way home and we both looked at each other and said, "boy, you know we're tired when we don't even feel like going in!" lol Very unusual for us:o)

That fabric is GREAT, Monica! What a cute apron and your bows look wonderful too (and very thrifty!)

I am still knitting and working on some scarves for Xmas gifts. I need to start a baby blanket though for a girlfriend so that will be next on the agenda.

Any ideas for what to do with mens ties? I bought 6 at the thrift store and was sure I'd come up with something but I'm all blanks lately.

:) I am also working on an apron for a swap (I finally got the fabric cut out--we are headed in the right direction!) and I am also working on hair bows for my dd. How funny! Those are the main two projects right now.

Wow! You accomplished alot that afternoon. Recently I have decorated some nesting boxes, painted a couple frames, cut pieces for a table runner. I have several things in the works, so I need to get moving!

Everything is so cute. I love the bows. I wish my girl was still young enough to tollerate bows. Sigh alas at 12 it would not go over well, LOL

I haven't been able to craft much recently, but I did a tiny little remake on the ugly pullcord on the attic stairs. LOL I like it, though I wouldn't really call it crafting. LOL

I was having craft withdrawals too so in the past week have made a wreath, cut out and mostly sewed a skirt (from a thrifted sheet), cut out an apron (from the same sheet) and did the garland of praise that you posted last week. Love the look it adds to my bedroom but can't upload the pic due to camera cord issues. =( Looking forward to your other Proverbs 31 crafts.

Monica,
I always love looking at your craft projects. :) You did such a wonderful job on both. I'm also excited to see what you are going to do for the next Proverbs 31 project.

Blessings!!
Joy
PS...it was fun for me to see that we have similar taste in music (Glory Revealed). We also love Steve Green's CD's, I think I have both totally memorized!! :)

I am not much of a seamstress, but I adore this apron style. I might have to give it a try.

Monica,

Glad you had a chance to work on some crafty stuff. That apron turned out great--I hope you love your swapped apron as much!

Your hairbows are so cute, I just bought bunches of ribbon yesterday to make some myself this weekend!
My husband is out of town so I am hoping to have a productive crafting weekend! Going to make your garland of praise for him to surprise him when he gets home.

My recent projects have been completing a baby afghan, making granny squares out of all my leftover yarns, purchased greenery to redecorate atop my kitchen cabinets, and cut out fabric to make dd a superhero cape she keeps asking for!

What a cute apron!! Thanks for the link. I will be working on an apron for my sister-in-law who is graduating high school. She is getting an apartment for college. I am also going to embellish dish towels for her. It will be my second-ish time working with a pattern so we will see how it goes. I have made several aprons without a pattern but this one is a very feminine dress-style one.

I also have plans to organize the pantry and dress it up with shelf liner or fabric-wrapped shelves and lace on the fronts. Pretty it up a bit!! Also, need to paint the bookcase for the playroom/office/future schoolroom. Get the toys organized on the shelves, etc. I need a nap just thinking about it all!!

Oh, Mary Ann, how does spray painting furniture turn out?

I love it! Free time and you run to the crafts (and I run from them!!) - isn't it neat to see how God has gifted us each uniquely.

My current crafts have all been preschool related! We host a co-op in our home once a week and so I am always on the lookout for kid friendly ideas.

This week we made birdfeeders from icecream cones! Paint on peanutbutter, roll in birdseed, and thread a string through the bottom to hang. They look like bells and the kids love to watch the birds peck away.
