Mitford Moments

It's been a while since we visited Mitford - here are some more thoughts on bringing Mitford home to our real lives:

* Visit people in the hospital!
* Cut flowers from our yard and share with others.
* Share out of the abundance of our blessings.
* Remember birthdays and make them a day that honors the special person!
* Appreciate life's simple pleasures: Father Tim loves seeing jars of canned tomatoes!
* I love the motto, "Mitford Takes Care of Its Own!" Think about what that would mean if we lived that way.

All of those ideas are great! Good old fashioned simple pleasures and valuing people. I think that is one thing I miss from what life was like when I was a child.... people took the time to do simple things for others that showed simple love, joy, kindness, respect. Now life is so fast that we find so little time to look beyond the many things we need to get done to survive! It really doesn't take much to make a difference.

Last year I was having a BAD day. I was undergoing some serious medical testing and my car broke down on me on the same day. My neighbor reached out with a CHOCOLATE cake and a kind word! I will remember that forever... it was a bright spot in my TERRIBLE day!

Thanks for the reminder to reach out with SIMPLE things... they don't take a lot of time, but they really make a difference!

Excellent reminder!! For me i think i need to pray more that the Lord would open my eyes to be able to see the needs around me. How precious of Heathers neighbor to being sensitive to blessing her and her family!!!!! I LOVE sharing these kinds of blessings with each other. Thanks Monica--tammyp--great encouragement to love others!!!

Great ideas! I just love the motto "Mitford takes care of its own!"

I always think of that motto when we have a tragic event in our Amish community. When tornados sweep through the Amish community pulled together and started cleaning up and rebuilding while the rest of the area waited for their insurance company. How comforting it would be to know no matter what your community would be there for you!

I love the idea of taking care of our own instead of demanding that the government do it. Show them love, not entitlement to charity.

Hi! This is great. I especially want to do the simple things you can do every day to bless someone, like giving them flowers. By the way, what is "Mitford"? I see you often do those Mitford Moments. Where does that come from? I love your blog! THanks for sharing.

I love your Mitford posts!! I think I need to pay my $100 library fee so I can check the series out. I am so not exagerating(sp?) about the fine-thats what misplacing the books for a few months will get you!!

I really like this list. Thanks for sharing! It is the little things in life that mean so much but it is so easy to look them over!

I think the moms at CBC do a great job of this. From sharing maternity clothes, to baby clothes, to homeschool materials, to meals, the women of CBC are some of the most caring people I know.

annacoumos: The Mitford Series was written by Jan Karon. It is a series of nine books and when I share these ideas, they are taken from the books. You'd love them if you enjoy these posts! Check your library. The first book is called At Home in Mitford.

Enjoy!
