Russian Tea Cakes

Here is favorite recipe number three! One more to come tomorrow!

Russian Tea Cakes

1 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
2 c. finely chopped nuts

Beat butter and sugar. Add vanilla. Combine flour and nuts and stir into sugar mixture. Roll dough into 1-inch balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 15 min. or until lightly browned.

While hot, roll in powdered sugar. Cool on a rack and then roll again in powdered sugar to coat. Makes about 5 dozen.

I have made these, and it was under a recipe called "mexican wedding cookies". Interesting. I like that they are not so sweet, until you get to the powdered sugar. Last time I cut the powdered sugar with cinnamon and added an entire new dimension to the flavor. YUMMO

Hey Paige - I have seen them called both names. Hmmm, cinnamon sounds good too! :)

Monica, I have very fond memories of these cookies from my childhood. My mom used to make them for cookie exchanges and it makes me smile and think back to that time whenever I see them now. (My mom went to be with the Lord 15 years ago.)

Blessings,
Michelle

P.S. Would you like some of this MI snow?! ha ha

My all-time favorite Christmas cookie! My kids re-named them Snowball cookies. I made a batch this week and they're long gone!

I just made these this weekend. I find it interesting that you also call them Russian Tea Cakes, even though we live in totally different areas of the country. Most people here call them Mexican Wedding Cookies and I've also heard them called "Snowballs". No matter what they are called, they are DELICIOUS!
