Family Night: O Christmas Tree

Saturday night, we headed out to get our Christmas Tree! We sang O Christmas Tree on the way and had fun picking out just the right one! Emily and Rachel had more fun looking at the display for a water fountain than the trees, so there weren't many photo opportunities!

When we got home, we had our traditional Christmas Tree dinner! French toast cut in half on the diagonal and sprinkled with green sugar. Add a sausage link for the trunk and serve.

We put the lights and garland on that night and the next day did the ornaments. Here is the finished product:

Your tree looks gorgeous! I spot an ornament I gave David a few years ago--I love that little marshmallow design!

Very nice! Thanks for sharing.
I really like the braided fabric ribbon wrapped around the tree. Anything tricky about making this?

Love the idea of the Christmas tree supper. Might have to "steal" this idea, Meredith!

Oh, and we're thinking about getting our first live tree EVER. Any tips?

Okay, I realized after I posted my comment that I called you Meredith. Sorry! Can you tell whose blog I read besides yours? ; )

Amy - I don't know of any tips for selecting a good tree except to go with what you like. One that is soft to the touch will likely last longer than one that is already dropping needles if you run a branch through your hand. We've always had a live tree and I simply love how it smells in our house!

Day by Day - I'll be sharing the garland very soon - it is super easy and I'll be offering some in a giveaway.

Carrie - yes! I love those ornaments!

Mom - it does smell delicious! That is cute that Dad liked the french toast tree!

Amy -

One other thought: if they don't offer to give the trunk a fresh cut - you will need to do that so it drinks more water and stays fresher longer!

Oh, I love real trees. Too many allergies over here to indulge, but I adore seeing and smelling everyone else's.

I love the French Toast idea. I might have to do that when we decorate our tree. Thanks for the great idea!

I was afraid to get ours, thinking it was too early and it wouldn't make it to Christmas. But now that I've read your blog...I'm raring to go. And add me to the list of people who are going to steal your Christmas tree french toast idea!

I know I mentioned this last year, but realized I forgot to mention it this year -

The Christmas Tree french toast idea came from an issue of Taste of Home magazine! We have enjoyed using it and I hope you will too!

We had the french toast trees for dinner tonight. Except that turkey bacon was our trunk.
Thanks so much for sharing!
