This is one of those books that I read every year or so! I am always so encouraged and challenged by the message.

For those of you who haven't read it - it is written as an allegory about a young woman named Much-Afraid and her journey to the High Places as she comes to know her Chief Shepherd along the way.

Have any of you read it? What did you learn? I've started working on a Bible Study that goes with it, maybe someday I'll actually finish it and share it.

What books do you read year after year and why?

* By the way, this is not an endorsement for anything this author has written as in her later years and writings, she strayed from her Christian beliefs. But, I love this book and know that God is still using it to communicate His truth in spite of this!

I love that book too! I read all the "Mitford" and "Little House" books every year. "Mitford" in the summer and "Laura" in the winter. It is like visiting with treasured friends. dee

Monica,

As you know, I've read that book, but has been a long time. I just remember the message being so powerful, especially for someone like me who can be anxious about many things.

That is so neat that you're working on a study to go with it--I hope you'll stick with it!

A Woman After God's Own Heart is a book that I read at least once a year, as well as many of the books from Janette Oke's Love Comes Softly series.

Oh yes, this is one of those "life changing" books. Very good. Did you know that there is also one for children?

I have not read this one yet, though it has been on my "To Read" list for a long time now.

Books that I read nearly every year or every other year are:

"The Hidden Art of Homemaking" by Edith Schaeffer

"Living More With Less" by Doris Janzen Longacre

"Simple Abundance" by Sarah ban Breathnach

"The Tightwad Gazette" series by Amy Dacyzyn

Umm... I'm sure there are more, like decorating books that I revisit for inspiration from time to time, but those are the ones I think of right off.

Such a lovely place you have here. I know I will be back.

This is one of my very favorite books too! It was passed down to me from my great grandmother, and is well worn and loved... such an inspiring story!

I'm not sure how I've missed reading this, but I will definitely add it to my list!

I smiled when I read the comment about reading the Little House books in the winter -- that's when I love to re-read them, too! :) I am currently re-reading the Mitford books. For renewed inspiration and motivation, I periodically re-read the Tightwad Gazette books, "Simple Abundance", "Sink Reflections" (by the FlyLady), "Your Money or Your Life", "The Simple Living Guide", and "Living More With Less."

So many books -- so little time! :)
Love you, Mom
