Calendar

Have you always wondered what to use that old cookie sheet for? I had one that I was ready to get rid of and even had it in my donate box. But, came up with a way to reuse it.

Here is the yucky cookie sheet before it's makeover:

I simply gave it a coat of spray paint and then glued some felt on the back to protect the wall.

I made letters, days of the week, months and weather pictures using the computer and scrapbook paper. Then, I had the individual items laminated. And, using a magnet strip, cut pieces to put on the back of each date. Now, Emily can use this for homeschooling each day as she learns about the month, day, date and weather for that day.

There is already a hole in one end to hang it by - I added a piece of fabric - cute! I really want to hang this on the side of our refrigerator and am on the lookout for a strong magnetic hook.

All the extra pieces are stored in two manila envelopes attached to the inside of the pan so they are hidden when hanging.

So cute! We recently went on a long road trip and I took two long cookie sheets, covered the tops in felt, and decorated them for the kids to use as across their laps in their car seats. The lip on the cookie sheets keeps cars and colored pencils from sliding off. The felt keeps them from being too loud. If you flip them over, you have a magnetic board to play with the magnetic alphabet and numbers. Cole even used the magnetic numbers for a while to keep track of what mile marker we were on. And we practiced spelling different words with the letters.

I'm pretty certain that idea wouldn't have occurred to me if I hadn't been reading all these wonderful crafty, frugal blogs. (wink)

This is a great idea and it turned out darling! I'm not sure the magnetic hook I mentioned to you will be strong enough to hold this, but I will get it to you to try.

Way to use your resources!
Love, Mom

You always come up with such original cute ideas. I have a box of about 500 sample Christmas Cards I found here at the office. (all different) I started to just throw them away, and thought of how cute they would look glued onto some brown paper packages with jute twine and cinnamon ornaments like you made. What do you think? Any other ideas?

Monica, What computer font did you use?

Thank you!

Great idea!! Could you have used the chalkboard paint on it and had a magnetic board too? I saw where you made a large chalkboard so I know that you don't need another one but I'm just wondering. You ALWAYS find ways to reuse things. What a blessing you are to your husband and family.

HI MOnica,

What a great idea! I have a really old cookie tray like this that I've been thinking of throwing out. This idea would be great.

Now I have a DUMB question - I've never used spray paint (I'm VERY uncrafty........) - is this any special sort I should use?

Thanks, Wilma

Christy! Great idea on the road trip tables, what a great way to corral their items and give a magnetic board - love it!

Wilma - I don't know of any reason it would need to be any specific kind of paint. I usually go for whatever color I like! :)

Lynn Marie - yes, I think this could also have been painted with chalk board paint! Somewhere I even saw chalkboard spray paint!
