Baseball Birthday

David's birthday was last week and on Friday night, we celebrated Baseball style! Here's the scoop on the whole night:

A Baseball Cake with pennants that said, "Happy Birthday David!"

Home Plate shaped place mats made out of brown kraft paper were topped with enamelware dishes. Bandannas were used as napkins and bound with a slip of scrapbook paper and attached with double-stick tape. The pennants were made out of construction paper and wooden skewers and acted as place cards.

Here is the template for the place mats!

The centerpiece was simply David's baseball glove, a baseball and an American flag.

I made this chalkboard recently (will be posting more on this later in the week) and decorated this into a scoreboard. The paper pennants are just stapled onto string. We also had lengths of these hanging across the ceiling.

For dinner we had hot dogs, watermelon, small bags of chips and ...

...of course, icy cold Coke's!

Cracker Jacks were available for snacking! And, I found a copy of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" on one of Emily's CD's, so we played that while serving dinner.

After dinner and cake, we were ready to get outside and have a little fun. I had seen this idea and decided to make my own. I bought one yard of navy blue canvas at Wal-Mart for about $4.50. I used painter's tape to mark off the lines and then painted with craft paints. Cutting holes for the different spots was the last step. Here is the finished product hanging from the clothesline and ready to play!

A bucket of bean bags and a few players are all you need!
I think this may be my favorite photo of the whole event! Look at that sweet face peeking through the third base hole!

Emily had a great time! She has this thing about wearing our cloth napkins, and in this case bandannas, on her head!

We wrapped up the whole baseball theme the next morning by having this fun cereal for breakfast! It was perfect because this was David's favorite cereal growing up and with the baseball shaped pieces, I could not resist!

Monica,

So glad you all had fun. I love the photo--and movie--of Emily in her little kerchief!

Everything as usual turned out darling.

It's dark, cold and rainy here this morning so N's sleeping in a bit!

Very very cute! It is fun to see other's ideas for frugal theme birthday's. We have enjoyed doing stuff like that at our house but I don't know that we have ever done it quite that nicely. Just lately we had fun doing a dog birthday party for my son but unfortunatly my camera was not working at the time.
