Weekly Deals

Wow! I don't know about all of you - but while I simply thrive on getting a good deal - I'm finding that it is an enormous amount of work and the cashiers don't seem to like people like me very much. Sigh.

Anyway - here are the deals I found this week:

Walgreens: (I had a hard time finding some of the free items, so you will notice they are not in the picture, but make sure to check your stores!)
* Alka-Seltzer Plus Immunity Complex: sale price $6.99 - cash register rewards $6.99 = free
* Pantene Pro-V Texturize! Hair Care: $4.99 with $4.99 mail-in-rebate = free
* Rimmel Renew & Lift Makeup: $8.99 with $8.99 mail-in-rebate = free
* Aquafresh Toothbrush: $3.99 with $3.99 mail-in-rebate = free
* Zantac 150 8 count: $4.99 with $4.99 mail-in-rebate = free
* Clear Care Contact Solution 4 oz.: $6.99 with $6.99 mail-in-rebate = free
* Children's Tylenol and Children's Tylenol Plus: 2/$10 with $5.00 mail-in-rebate and $3.00 mfr. coupon in yesterday's paper = $2.00 for two bottles (an amazing deal since they are normally $6.99 a bottle!) NOTE: I was overcharged on this, but note that both items are shown in the ad and I did get my money back.
* Suave Professionals products: 5/$10 with $5 mail-in-rebate and two $1.00 mfr. coupons off of two bottles each = $3.00 for five products
* Deerfield Farms cheese: sale price $0.99 - no extra coupons on this one, but it is a good deal. NOTE: Make sure to carefully check the dates on cheese products at Walgreens. Both my Mom and I have seen expired products on sale.

Staples:
* Targus Ladies Essential tote: $49.99 - $36 instant savings - $11 easy rebate = $2.99 (ours was already out!)
* 8-pack #2 Dixon yellow pencils: $0.01; limit three

Eckerd's/Rite Aid:
* Zantac 150 8 ct.: $4.99 - $4.99 mail-in-rebate = free
* Duck EZ Start Packing Tape: $1.50 - $1.50 mail-in-rebate = free (this is a repeat, you may only qualify for one offer during the month of August)

CVS:
* Zantac 150 8 ct: $5.49 - $5.49 Extra Bucks printed at register = free
* Rice Krispie Treats 8 ct (Pop Tarts and Yogos snacks are on sale also): $1.69 - $1.00 off 2 mfr. coupon = $4.76 for four boxes
* Kellogg's Cereal: $1.99 - $1.00 off 2 mfr. coupon = $9.94 for six boxes
There was a mail-in-rebate in the paper a couple of weeks ago for $10 back on ten Kellogg's products - so my total for all of this will be: $4.70

* I also bought a couple of other sale items and used my $20 Extra Bucks coupon from all the cereal that was on sale a couple of weeks ago - so I paid $1.29 cash out of my pocket for everything I bought and got $2.00 in Extra Bucks at the register - so I came out on the good end!

I am really trying not to buy sugary cereal, but honestly - this was a deal I could not pass up and I will set aside one morning a week for cereal so that it does not become our norm. Also, David loves Rice Krispie treats and as much as I prefer homemade items, mine just aren't as good as these. So, these will be special treats for us.

I hear ya about the cashiers not being very friendly. It's very frustrating...they have a sale, they take coupons (sometimes double...even triple the coupons), but yet they are grumpy about it. I think I'm going to start looking at it as their problem and not mine. I have a hard time with that, though...I'm a people pleaser. So when a cashier gets grumpy, it's hard for me to swallow. But because it's my job to save our family money I am going to get the best deals and save the most money. I called Kroger last week to see what their coupon policy was and they said they would triple up to 50 cents and coupons 51 cents to 1.00 they would double...max 2 of the same coupon per visit. Now I'm fine with making a few separate trips into the store. I did it last week. But the cashier just didn't seem to like me after the third trip. The office gal told me it was perfectly fine. So...while I'm not happy that the cashier was grumpy (on a slow day) I was very happy that I got cheese for free and paid very little for some other items.

So...keep your chin up girlie! You're saving your family money! : )

Hugs,
Carmen

One more thing...promise. I was at a different store last week and the cashier was very friendly, until I pulled out my coupons (there weren't really that many -- maybe 10?). She just clammed up and was very short with me. I really don't see the problem. The computer doubles them and tells the cashiers if I had those items so I don't think it's that hard.

When I was a cashier I was happy to see people save money. Oh, well.

Done, promise!

Wow -- more great deals! :)

I don't know why so many cashiers are grumpy when given coupons -- maybe they are jealous that someone is saving so much money!?

Have you considered contacting the stores where this happens? If it is the store policy to cheerfully take coupons, they may be interested to know that their employees are not doing that. (Since I am non-confrontational, I would probably write a letter!)

Keep up the good work!
Love, Mom

Actually I am working on a letter to both store managers and the headquarters. I guess that's the problem with chain stores. I always enjoy going to our local store...just not in the pocketbook!

What great deals! Sorry you had to deal with crabby cashiers. That's the worst.
God bless :)

Great deals, Monica! I think the cashiers get really frustrated with me too. I had to go back and have them correct my receipt this week. What a pain! It is so worth it for the savings though! You guys did great- enjoy all that yummy food and those beauty products!!

You could use some of the loop-y sugar cereal to make Christmas decorations like garlands, etc. Just an idea if you don't want to eat all of it.

Maybe I am a little dense but where do you get all those coupons and how do you know what company is giving rebates and things. Please teach me. LOL. God Bless You as you work so hard for your family.

I haven't had a chance to get out and do many of the rebates in the past several weeks. But I hope to at least get to Wal-greens this week. I'm still looking for a great deal to use my $20 Kraft ECB's from a couple of weeks ago. I figured that if I don't find a good deal, I'll just use it to buy some useful items and call it a day! Better than letting it expire. LOL!

BTW-thanks so much for your sweet prayer this morning. I am feeling much better this afternoon. :-)

There's a website called thecouponclipper.com They sell coupons for a little bit of nothing. I went to Kroger today and bought chicken helper. I bought 10 boxes. They were $1 a box and when you bought ten you automatically saved $2. Then I bought from coupon clipper (4) 50 cents off 2 coupons. They tripled those (all of them!) and so in the end I spent $2 on those 10 boxes. Now I have to add that I don't normally buy boxed meals -- they aren't that healthy. I like to have them on hand in case of emergency (sickness, time constraint, etc.). Anyway...you can get a lot of great coupons from that website. I think the coupons that I bought were 5 cents each. Some are as much as 15 cents each. The gal who runs it is a homeschooling mom and has a bunch of church friends who help her run it. You have to buy $3 worth of coupons before adding the handling charge of (I think) 50 cents and then of course there's shipping (41 cents). I've been doing it for a few weeks now and I have saved us so much money! There's also a site called the "grocery game" (you'd have to search for it). That one tells you about the sales and coupons but charges you, though. I read my ads and look through the clipper website. For me, though, in Indiana...when I order my coupons on Sunday I don't get them until Friday. (They are in Florida.)
Monica, you find the really good rebate deals at Walgreens. Is that in your ad or do you find them in the store once you're there?

Hope all that info helps.
Oh! And the cashier at Kroger was soooo very nice and helpful today! Thank you Lord!

Hugs,
Carmen

Wow you gals are bargain hunting queens! We do not have a CVS here in Duluth and I am bummed. We do have a Walgreens so i do rebates there often, but you have to put out the cash and wait for your rebate...once you get into the cycle though, you always have money on your rebate card.

Hubby and I experience "coupon crab" from cashiers too and it makes my guy so mad! None of our grocery stores double coupons and usually their in-store coupons only allow you to use one, so we divvy up our grocery order and each go through the line if we want extra of a good deal...that really makes the cashier frown ! :)
