Mitford Moment: Being Together

I love the description of Father Tim's time at Meadowgate after dinner. They all curled up in front of a cozy fire and enjoyed conversation and then Marge asked Father Tim to read aloud. What a comforting idea to spend this kind of quality time together without needing to be "entertained" ~ what is your idea of a cozy and comforting time together with those you love?

Monica,

I spied the Mitford Cookbook at our Christian bookstore yesterday and thought of you!

Have a fantastic day!

For summertime, I enjoy sitting on the patio at my in laws on summer evenings. They have a balcony swing and we usually share "Abendbrot" or "Evening Bread". It what the Germans call dinner, which includes hearty breads, cheeses, cold cuts and vegetables. Much conversation, swinging and laughter. I will probably take the baby & pram and head over there this evening. They are only 1/2 mile away.

Many times when I visit my parents we end up on their front porch. We sit on the swing and watch the kids play in the front yard. It tickles Megan to see her cousins running around and playing. Such joy to her their laughter.

Monica, I'm one of those that signed up for the swap and has been a consistent lurker on your page... and I've finally gotten the nerve to start my own! I love reading your posts. I knew your site was a keeper when I saw the Mitford Moments... those are personal favorites of mine!!

We are hooked on Little House on the Prairie dvds. We will begin season 7 this next week. We pop some popcorn and hunker down with the kiddos. My mom comes over occasionally to watch with us, too. We talk about the character traits (Nelly vs. Mary usually!) afterward with the kiddos. It's kind of our LHOTHP devotional time. : )

Hugs,
Carmen

This post reminded me of long-ago evenings when we read books together (including the entire Little House series) before you and Carrie went to bed.

More recently, I remember sitting in Carrie's living room each reading the same issue of a Country Home magazine -- occasionally sharing something interesting with each other. Didn't you and I do the same thing at your house?? :)

Dad and I enjoy sitting on our front porch or on the back patio -- talking about our days, watching the hummingbirds, listening to the breeze --

Remember the hymn sings we used to have? They weren't really "cozy" but the fellowship was special, the hymns uplifting, and we have fond memories of those days.

Here's to more Mitford Moments! :)

Love you, Mom

We enjoy sitting around a fire at night with family and friends. It's pitch-black, set near our woods, so we look up at the stars in the lull of conversation, feel the peace of the night, and listen for sounds in the woods to lend a bit of excitement. We can be out there past 11, the time flies in the enjoyment of the night and each other.
