Playground Memories

David caught this picture of me playing on the swings during our recent trip to Florida. So, it got me to thinking about what I liked to do during recess as a child. And, that was play on the swings and bars. But, I remember also offering to help the teacher during that time. I really would rather spend the time helping her than playing outside sometimes. Sometimes they let me help - and sometimes I played outside.

One memory that came back was "counts" for the swing. When all the swings were full, someone could come and stand by your occupied swing and say, "counts" ~ then they proceeded to count to some set number (I don't remember this part) and when they reached the amount, you had to get down and let someone else have a turn.

So, now I want to know - what did you enjoy about recess and playing on the playground when you were little?

Swings were my thing too. Especially when I got in higher elementary. My friends and I would sit and swing the whole recess period. and just chat away. I also remember wanting to help the teacher. It is funny how it is a special treat to help at school but when my mom would ask me to help it would be a chore. Hmmmm Makes me think.
I hope you have a good day!! :o)

I loved to swing (still do), but I think most of our recess time was spent playing group games (Chinese jump rope being the big fad at the time). I also enjoyed helping the teachers, and spent time after school & during the summers helping out. During elementary school, I was a "runner" for the office...that was a great job.

Love the pic!

Good Morning! I also LOVED to swing, and I still do!!! Recently I had the opportunity to swing my little heart away, and then I "jumped" out of the swing for the sake of wonderful memories. I landed on my feet (I was a little scared about that). Let's swing together sometime (be sure to wear shorts under your dress, though).

I loved the bars and had the blisters to prove it. I also was a tetherball champ! :)

I liked the swings and jump rope. I could jump rope for hours!

I sometimes hop on the swing when I am playing with my nieces. It feels so good to let loose once in a while.

Dodge Ball! w00t! I was the dodge ball king. Also have good memories of flying kites. We had "old style" swings that did not have the safety measures to prevent you from swinging all the way over :)

I loved tetherball. There was always a race to get to the tetherball courts because if you got there first you were in charge!

Swings were always fun! But I liked playing jump rope or tag best.

Hey, did you see the new Chips Ahoy! Ice Cream Loaf from Kraft Foods? If not I will send you the link to it :) It might be good to try for ice cream Sundays.
