Ice Cream Sundays: Week Two

Oh. My. Goodness. This recipe is delicious and a keeper that I hope to make again and again! It is a bit more expensive to make than lots of recipies I would choose - but I can be watching for sales and good deals to make it better!

Click here for the recipe. I followed the recipe with one change - I did not use the hot fudge sauce in the pudding mixture. This coming week, I plan to make Ice Cream Dessert - which I loved growing up with peppermint ice cream!

Ice Cream Dessert

Crust:
1 - 11 oz. box vanilla wafers, crushed
1 stick butter
* Toss together crumbs and melted butter, reserve 1/2 c. crumb mixture; press remaining crumbs into greased 9x13 pan.

Chocolate Filling:

1 stick butter
2 squares unsweetened chocolate
2 c. powdered sugar
3 beaten egg yolks
3 beaten egg whites
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. chopped nuts, if desired
* Melt butter and chocolate over hot water. Add egg yolks and powdered sugar. Cook slowly over hot water a few minutes. Remove from heat and blend in egg whites, vanilla and nuts. Pour over crust. Cool.

Ice Cream: Slice softened ice cream (3/4 of half gallon any flavor) and place evenly over chocolate mixture. Use a knife to smooth edges together. Sprinkle with reserved 1/2 c. crumbs.

Freeze.

Yum - these recipes look great! Makes me want to fix MY childhood favorite! Maybe I'll post that recipe tomorrow.

I bought blackberries and cream cheese, so after I make your Blackberry Cobbler I think I'll move on to a frozen dessert. Mmmmmmmm.....

That looks YUMMO! I printed out the recipe so I can try it myself. The dog days of summer are definitely upon us, aren't they?

Sorry - I just now realized that it was Lauren over at Baseballs & Bows that posted the recipe for Blackberry Dumpling Cobbler, and not you. Hope I didn't cause too much confusion, and that this wasn't too big of a bloggy blunder!! =(

Monica,

Thanks for posting the Oreo & Fudge ice cream cake. Looks so delicious. I can't have ice cream but my husband and friends will love it. I'm wondering why you left out the hot fudge topping. Did you think it would be too sweet?

Thanks again! ~Andrea

Andrea - the real reason I left it out is that we did not have any and don't usually use it. So even if I did buy it, it would have sat in our fridge for who knows how long. But, I also did think it would be too rich if I put that in. We loved it this way - hope your family loves it too!

Yum! I think I could make it here, with a few minor changes. We brought an old-fashioned ice cream from the States, so with a little forethought, I think I could whip it up!!
