Ice Cream Sundays: Week One

I started this little family tradition last summer just to celebrate summer. It was cut short when Rachel was born, but we had fun the weeks that we did it!

The idea was that I would plan a fun recipe including ice cream for each Sunday of the summer! Want to join in?

Here is this week's recipe: Frosty Orange Dream Bars

Updated: Here is a photo of our dessert ~ we did not love this and I will probably not even keep the recipe. Just wasn't our taste. If you do make it, I would suggest adding more vanilla wafers to the crust as it just didn't seem like enough before we added more. Also, I would suggest you let it sit out for at least 15 minutes before eating it as it tasted better the more it thawed out. (Thanks, Melissa, for helping me with this on Saturday!)

Here's what I'm planning to try this coming week: Oreo & Fudge Ice Cream "Cake"

What a great idea! We love ice cream. How neat it would be to surprise Chuck with a special ice cream treat every Sunday. What fun it will be to search for ice cream treats!

Monica,

Sorry you weren't a fan of the first recipe. The Oreo cake sounds delicious--I'll have to look that one up (unless it's just in the kids' issue--ha!)

love, me

I love this idea! I just got the Kraft Food magazine in the mail a few weeks ago. It has several ice-cream recipes that look delicious! If you don't get this free magazine, you can sign up for free at kraftfood.com or you may be able to find the recipes online. There was a really neat "cake" using ice cream sandwiches.

My mom used to make a "pie" using a prepareg graham cracker crust, spooning in softened sherbet then freezing to set. She topped that with hard shell, then a layer of cool whip. It was a summer favorite. Watch out for the hard shell though, it is NOT waist friendly at all.

I bet you will love the oreo and fudge cake from the Kraft magazine. I made it a few weeks ago when we had company over and it was a hit! Definatly a 'make again' recipe! :)
